Beat the 3pm cravings and sharpen up your nutrition

Written on September 6, 2016

3pm cravings can be a killer for many people and a real block to them achieving their training goals. If you know you are training hard on a regular basis, but still not getting the results you desire, its time to look at the reasons why. For most people it comes down their nutrition. Both through their dietary choices and portion sizes.

Think of your body as a car…no matter what car you drive, if you don’t put in the correct fuel, it will never reach its potential. That why it is so important to get our nutrition on track to complement the effort you are putting into your training. If this sounds like you and you want some more specific help with your diet, please ask me and we can construct a nutrition plan that works for you!

I have had a lot of people ask me recently for suggestions for snacks between meals. Below is a great afternoon treat, that my wife has made and I am absolutely loving!! I have also attached a few recipes that were kindly put together for us by Kate Bennett, who many of you know from Boot-camp. Kate is a dietitian and exercise physiologist and understands the importance of fuelling your body correctly.

Below is the Weet-bix bar that I have been diving into most afternoons:

INGREDIENTS

8 Gluten Free Weet-Bix

1 cup pitted dates

½ cup diced almonds, sunflower seeds, linseeds, sesame seeds (any mixed seed combo is fine)

½ teaspoon Vanilla Paste

½ cup desiccated coconut

2 dessertspoons almond butter

1 dessertspoon Cacao

½ cup Coconut Oil melted

METHOD

Line a loaf tin with baking paper. Place dates in a bowl and cover with boiling water for 5 minutes. Place the Weet-Bix, dates, vanilla paste, coconut, almond butter, cacao in food processor and mix until combine.

Melt coconut and add to food processor and process until mixed through. Pour into a large bowl and add in mixed seeds, with a wooden spoon give the mixture a good mix then pour into the loaf tin. With the back of a teaspoon smooth out the top of the mixture and place in the freeze for an hour.

Once set cut into bars and store in the fridge in an airtight container
